Hello, 2010

January 1st is New Year's Resolutions Day for me, but this year I want to do something a little different. Instead of just listing my resolutions, I am going to list the things that I was thankful for in 2009.The ups of 2009:
  • Through hard work and sleepless nights, I am 8 months away from graduating college with a GPA that I am proud of. Although without that one stinkin B+, I'd be a little prouder!

  • Most of this year has been spent with the same guy, someone that I met the day before my birthday. So, you could say that my birthday gift this year was getting to see all that a relationship is supposed to be. Whether it be dying my hair with red streaks, sporting blue sparkle nail polish, screaming and leaping off the couch when my favorite horse wins or shutting out the world when engrossed in my favorite book, Matt always lets me be me and enjoys every bit of it. I can count on him for anything, especially a laugh and a smile. Sounds simple, but it took me 26 years to see that relationships are about making each other happy, not one person catering to the other. It's a nice change, and I can say that I am truly happy in that area.

  • Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra and Goldikova. 2009 was truly the year of the female in horse racing, and these girls kicked some serious ass. Kinda makes you feel bad for the boys like Summer Bird and Einstein- there was really nothing they could do to compete!

  • Putting my grandmother into the Alzheimer's ward this year meant weeks of tears, stomachaches and sleepless nights. The combination of emotions were overwhelming. Sadness because it had come to this, worry and heartbreak for my grandfather now living alone, guilt that we were locking her away.... yuck. Yuck all around. But I have to be thankful that we had this option, that the caregivers there do such a great job, that my grandmother is having fun there and that my grandfather no longer has to spend 24 hours a day caring for a violent, combative version of my grandmother. Fully medicated by nurses now, she is no longer quite so violent, just lost. And always happy to see us.

  • Having a job. I may be getting burnt out with it, but at least I still have a job when so many others are going without one.

  • That Gilda made it back home. Out all night in subfreezing temperatures, pelted by rain and wind while nursing a leg broken into pieces.... she had all the right in the world to give up. Still, she dragged herself home and has been nothing but the perfect patient ever since. Six more weeks of cage rest to go!

  • Season basketball tickets for two! Fun times....

2010 New Years Resolutions!

1) Graduate!!!!!!!!!

2) Start grad school applications, GRE's etc.

3) NO NEW PETS! I'm being overrun over here. ;)

4) Between school and work, my healthy eating has gone downhill. I am going to get back on track with that.

5) Focus on the good and roll through the bad. No sense in sweating the small stuff.

Happy New Year / Decade!
